Deer meat is enjoyed by many people, but it isn't something that is commonly sold in general grocery stores although it sometimes is. If you spend a large amount of money on deer meat because you consume it on a regular basis, going out and hunting for your own might be a good ideal. Your meat will not only be fresh, but you will end up saving a lot of money.

The key is to make sure you are able to actually capture the deer when you are on your hunting trips, which might not be as easy as it seems if you are not properly prepared. In this article, you will learn several helpful suggestions that will make going on a whitetail deer hunting trip less stressful.

Try to Eliminate Body Odor

The most important thing to avoid while out deer hunting is to have a strong body odor. Even if the odor is pleasant, such as from cologne or having freshly washed clothes, it is a bad idea. The reason why is because any type of odors that are on the human body can cause deer to become fearful and run away. If you wash your clothes before going on your hunting trip, use a detergent that isn't scented. You should also bath in unscented soap to keep your body odor as mild as possible, as it can increase your chance of being able to capture a deer.

Take a Tarp on the Trip

You must consider how you will transport a deer to your vehicle after it has been captured. Depending on the age of the deer, it can be a heavy animal to transport with just your hands. You should be prepared to drag the deer to your vehicle and try not to contaminate it with dirt and other types of debris that is on the ground. Plan to take a tarp with you on the hunting trip to make dragging the deer easier. Taking a hunting partner along on the trip will be helpful for placing the tarp beneath the deer.

Be Prepared for Field Dressing

After capturing a deer, a procedure known as field dressing should be done immediately after. Basically, you can take a sharp knife on your trip that can be used for removing the internal organs from out of the deer. You should also remove all or most of the windpipe during the field dressing procedure. Don't forget to take a pair of gloves to use as well if you don't want to use your bare hands.
